Pilates Matwork involves performing a series of exercises utilising your own body weight for resistance. These movements and exercises are carefully designed to strengthen your "powerhouse" – your core muscles, including your abdominals, lower back, hips, and glutes. Beyond core strength, Matwork also improves flexibility, balance, and coordination, all the while promoting a deeper mind-body connection. At Wynberg Pilates Studio, we believe that individual attention is key to maximising your progress and ensuring proper form, and we keep our classes small. This allows our highly skilled instructors to provide personalised feedback and modifications, tailoring exercises to your specific needs and abilities, whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced practitioner. To add variety and challenge, we often incorporate a range of props into our Matwork classes. You might find yourself working with resistance bands to deepen muscle engagement, magic circles for targeted toning, small balls for support and release, or even light hand weights to enhance upper body strength. These props provide additional resistance, assistance, or sensory feedback, enriching your workout and helping you discover new ways to move.
